General Information
- Classification - 10th edition — single class filing. Class 33, alcoholic goods in class 32, and pork meat in class 29 cannot be registered
- Search - Possible for word marks ONLY
- Examination – Formality and substantive
- Opposition period - 30 days from last publication date
- Extension of time - Not possible for filing oppositions, counter oppositions, and responding to office actions
- Term of protection - 10 years from filing date and renewable for similar periods
- Use - Mark is vulnerable to cancellation action by interested parties if there is no bona fide use of the mark for a period of 5 consecutive years from registration date

- Opposition period - 60 days from publication in the IP Bulletin issued by the Patent Office after acceptance

The protection shall extend to the title of the work if created as well as the creative concept devised for broadcast material.Registration Requirements
- Power of Attorney from the applicant, duly legalized up to the U.A.E. Consulate.
- Copy of the Identification documents of the applicant and author (who created the work).
- The subject of the work.
- Detailed statement of work specification.
- 10 copies of the work.
- Declaration of Assignment from the author to the applicant, to be legalized from UAE Consulate.
Software
A. 3 CD’s containing the following:
- The program to be registered (auto run folder).
- The Database for that program
- The code of the software (open source code)
- The full description of the program its content and usage. as (Microsoft word or Adobe format)
B- Power of Attorney notarized as per the attached. C- Passport copies of the applicants. D- Assignment from the programmer to the company, duly notarized.
Registration Requirements
- Authorization letter in the letterhead of the applicant addressed to U.A.E. Network Information Center authorizing SMAS-IP to register the domain name in U.A.E.
- Copy of the U.A.E. Trademark Registration Certificate, in case the requested Domain Name differs from the applicant's name.
- For Arabic IDN (. Emarat), trademark registration certificate in UAE or in any other Arab country for the Arabic Script.
